Ducks

Welcome to Our Ducks Class Nursery

Dear Parents/Carers

We had a very successful term last year in Nursery, with all the children settling in well and building positive relationships with their peers and teachers.  We enjoyed our exploratory topic on Autumn and had a fabulous time learning about all the celebrations.  A big ‘thank you’ to all those parents who completed the homework activities with their children and sent in photos for us to talk about at Nursery.

We are now starting our new topic on ‘traditional stories’.  We will be reading lots of different traditional stories with the children, including the Gingerbread Man, The Enormous Turnip, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk.  Our 3 main focus stories are:-

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears

The 3 Little Pigs

The 3 Billy Goats Gruff

We encourage you to read at home with your children as much as possible, especially enjoying a bedtime story together.  The children will be learning how to act out the stories in Nursery using role-play as well as puppets, so please engage in imaginative play around the stories at home too.  We value your contributions to our Nursery and welcome any input linked to our topic and the children’s learning.

Our main focus in mathematics this term will be on the numbers 1-3 as our bears, pigs and goats all come in sets of 3.  We will be counting objects and actions then making comparisons between quantities.  We want to represent numbers using fingers, marks and pictures as well as learning to recognise and write our numerals 1,2,3.

In phonics we will be building up the children’s vocabulary and encouraging them to listen to the sounds they make when they form the words.  We aim to be able to start to hear and say the initial sounds in words.

We are very excited for the coming term and hope to have lots of fun in learning about the traditional stories together.

Thank you from the Nursery Team

Doves

Welcome to Dove class

Dear Parents/Carers

It’s been great welcoming the children back after the Easter break.  We are all rested and ready for our new topic “Living Things and Kindness”.

Please talk to your children about any insects/animals you see and talk about plants growing.  You could grow a plant and get your child to take care of it.  The local Library is full of plant/animal books and there are lots of wildlife programmes which you can enjoy with your child.

We will also be covering how we have grown from babies, so show your children old photographs of them and yourself.  How have they changed?  How have you changed?  Are there any similarities or differences?

This term we are continuing to recap Phase 3 phonic sounds.  We will send out overviews of the sounds we will be covering over the weeks with links to useful videos and websites.

It is very important that you read with your child every day to encourage a love of reading and to help with their development in achieving the Early Learning Goal by the end of the year.  Please sign the reading record every day to inform us of their progress.  Bug Club is a wonderful resource so please make the most of this invaluable resource – the children really love it!  You can find the link to Bug Club on the school website homepage.  Continue to practise counting to 20.  You can show your children coins and pretend to play shops with them.

We look forward to another exciting half term with you.
