Mrs Joanne Thomson, Mrs Kirsty Watson and Mrs Paula Keene would like to welcome our new families to Fledglings where our children at Sparrow Farm Infants and Nursery School begin their journey.
We begin our journey with settling our children with a warm and calming environment, so the children feel safe and secure after a very strange summer. This will help them to build positive relationships with both peers and new adults alike. As their confidence grows so will their curiosity to explore our rich environment. We will introduce some routine and rules and use visual aids to support the children’s understanding. We have already introduced our rainbow song and stations which help the children to keep their hands clean! We enjoy lots of messy play both inside and out, so named spare clothes are a must. Please provide nappies (no pull ups unless training to use the toilet) wipes and spare underwear too. We also advise wellies during wet weather as we love to jump in puddles!
Our main learning areas in the first term are:
- Personal, Social, Emotional Development (PSED)
- Communication and Language (CAL)
- Physical Development (PD)
Most of our learning will be through play and our environment throughout the year will be led by the children’s interests and favourite stories. So we will not be planning specific topics, but we will look at different festivals that link with our celebration’s week, so if you do have any important festivals please do let us know.
As part of getting to know our families we ask you to bring in a family photograph for the children to share and display on our family wall. If you are unable to provide a photograph, please feel free to email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have had such a positive start, we are very proud of the children and they are already settling amazingly. They have enjoyed exploring their new environment and sharing some favourite stories and rhymes. As Autumn approaches, we look forward to spending time outside and in the forest looking at the different changes we see at this time of year.
We look forward to a fun, filled year in Fledglings!
Rainbow Station Song
Rainbow station, rainbow station, clean your hands, clean your hands.
Find a rainbow station, find a rainbow station, clean your hands, clean your hands!
(Sung to the tune of Frere Jacque)
