Welcome to Year 2!
Our topic this half term is ‘What makes our world unique?’. We will be looking at people, animals and plants in depth.
We’re looking forward to many more exciting activities including World Book Day, our class assemblies, working on our school garden, a visit from the Dog’s Trust, looking after caterpillars and going pond dipping in Holland Park.

During the Autumn term we wrote to the Prime Minister about Climate Change. Please click here to see the response from 10 Downing Street. Ophelia’s letter received a special commendation! Following on from this we received a letter from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, please click here to see their response.
And here’s our winner from the poetry recital competition
The poem in question is ‘Gathering Leaves’ by Robert Frost
Please help your child to read by listening to them read at home every day. It is important that you ask your child questions as they read to help with their understanding. The class teacher and teaching assistant will listen to your child read and their reading books will be changed regularly. Please write in and respond to comments in your child’s reading record. Children are also encouraged to access ‘Bug Club’ at home (please use school code hwjk).
Children are given homework on a weekly basis, these tasks are linked to work from the school week. Please speak to your child’s class teacher for further support. Please hand this homework in on Monday.
Please ensure that your child’s uniform, water bottle and PE kit are clearly labelled.
Children need to have their PE kit in school. This should include a plain red t-shirt and navy/black shorts for indoor PE and a plain navy/black jumper and tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE. Children will also need black plimsolls.
Please check the school website regularly for important dates and information.
